Ole Frames

In after, Finds on January 2, 2011 at 10:13 am

My mom has a tendency to hoard. Not newspapers and empty cans. More like, furniture and farm land. While furnishing my new apartment I found this crazy ornate frame in her storage space with what I thought was an ugly picture inside. The redo took about a minute with some blue spray paint that I had saved from a previous project and I found another use for those huge clothespins I love so much. Now, I was not blogging at the time so I did not take a “before” pic, but it turned out so pretty I am going to share it with you anyway. The supposedly ugly picture was reused and it turned out to be cool too.

Quick Fix!!

In after, before, Finds on November 29, 2009 at 4:21 pm

A friend stepped into my living room the other day and said, “Why do you have so many mirrors?” Well, it is weird that mirrors cost so much in a retail store because I find them for super cheap all the time. I usually need to cute-them- up a bit, but the result is always satisfactory so I grab them when I find them. Hence, my quick fix for this week:

Little gold framed mirror I found for a buck!

Little blue framed mirror I put in my kitchen!

A shot of delicate blue paint snazzed-up my frame and looks great with my ‘bird of happiness’ and favorite tea mug!

Thrift Art Find

I found this big piece of artwork in the mission and paid just a few bucks for it. Even if I did not like the picture I feel like I lucked up with the frame. But I do like the picture. It is signed Luke Doheny, but I cannot find anything about him on the internet. I gently wiped it down with some Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day hand soap and it now hangs in my dining room.

AFTER: End Tables

I had you guys take a poll recently on what to do with the end tables I was given. The two winning votes were (1)paint them a bold color and (2)paint them to resemble flowers. I am not an artist and the flower idea turned out to be a daunting task so I compromised.

I went with a bold red from Sherwin Williams that was labled Bay Red. I got this paint for about 1 dollar a gallon at Habitat for Humanity and I actually like the color. Then I hand painted a repeating graphic of abstract trees onto the surface.

AFTER: Kitty Frame

Painting frames gives instant gratification. Also, you can find really ornate frames for cheap. Those are the best to spray paint some funky color! I inserted a crazy paper by Ki Memories. It has the texture and look of styrofoam. Weird. I shall give this to my friend Laura ’cause she loves her kitty so.

A Day of Thrifting

In Finds, Funky Sh*t on October 19, 2009 at 4:52 pm

Some days I have luck and others I find nothing. Today I found these awesome vintage cups and paid too much for them but oh well. I wanted them. I shall drink sake from them. Yum!

Painted the key holder with the last of my Krylon paint. I just love that stuff! Then I decided that it needed to be a jewelry holder and I put it up beside my dressing table. Voila!

I think that keys are suppose to hang from this.  I found it at a thrift store buried under a bunch of other junk and thought it was interesting. Let us see:
